My Story

Hello, I’m Tam, a UK- and Swiss-registered counsellor specialising in addiction, impulsive behaviours, and relationship difficulties.

I primarily work in a residential rehabilitation setting in Switzerland, supporting patients with addiction, emotional regulation difficulties, and relationship crises — including complex and high-profile cases where discretion and structured work are essential.

Alongside this, I run a private practice and take on a limited number of clients for individual and couples therapy, in English and Russian, in-person in Bern and online worldwide.

I trained and worked across international settings — London, Hong Kong, and Switzerland — and bring both clinical depth and cross-cultural understanding to my work.

Why I do this work

I came to psychotherapy from a business background, driven by a deep interest in how people think, react, and behave under pressure — and why, in certain situations, we lose control despite knowing better.

This interest was also personal. I experienced significant anxiety during periods of high stress, alongside ADHD-related challenges. Learning how to manage anxiety, regulate emotions and impulsivity, and regain a sense of control was a turning point in my own life — and it shaped everything about the way I work today.

What I focus on

I help clients understand and change the patterns that keep repeating — especially where things feel difficult to control.

This includes:

  • compulsive or addictive behaviours (such as alcohol use, substance use, or compulsive spending)
  • impulsive and self-sabotaging patterns (making decisions you later regret, avoiding important things, or pulling back just as things start to go well)
  • difficulty regulating emotions (reacting more intensely than you’d like, struggling to stay steady under stress)
  • relationship dynamics that don’t improve despite effort (repeated conflict, disconnection, or loss of trust)

My Qualifications &

  • Individual member of Swiss Association for Counselling (SGfB) (Switzerland)
  • Graduate member of British Psychological Society (MBPsS) (UK)

In-person in Bern, Switzerland — or online worldwide.

My approach

"You cannot avoid stress, triggers, or difficult emotions.

But you can change how you respond to them — and whether they continue to control your behaviour or your relationships."

My work is structured, focused, and designed to create real change — especially in areas where you feel out of control, stuck in patterns, or repeating the same outcomes.

In our work, we'll focus on three main outcomes:

01

Understanding what drives your patterns

We identify why certain behaviours keep repeating — whether it’s substance use, impulsive decisions, or recurring relationship conflicts. You will gain a clear understanding of what triggers these patterns and what keeps them going.

02

Breaking the cycle in real situations

Insight alone is not enough.

We work on changing how you respond in the moments that matter — when urges appear, when emotions escalate, or when conflicts unfold in your relationship.

This is where real change happens.

03

Building control and long-term stability

You will learn practical tools to manage impulses, regulate emotions, and communicate more effectively. The goal is not short-term relief, but lasting change — so you can rely on yourself in difficult situations without falling back into old patterns.

Therapies I use

I use only research-backed techniques and tools tailored to your unique needs, drawing from approaches like:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

We identify the thoughts that drive anxiety, self-doubt, and stress — and learn how to challenge and shift them, so they stop controlling your reactions and decisions. I have additional training in CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia), which I incorporate when working with sleep difficulties.

Schema Therapy (ST)

Some behaviours and reactions are deeply ingrained. We work on understanding where they come from and how to change them — especially patterns that repeat in relationships or self-sabotaging behaviour.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

You will learn how to handle uncomfortable thoughts and emotions without being driven by them — so you can make decisions based on what actually matters to you.

Gottman Method for Couples Therapy

In couples work, we focus on practical changes — how you communicate, manage conflict, rebuild trust, and create more stability and connection in the relationship.

Neuroscience-Informed Techniques

We work with how your brain and nervous system respond to stress, urges, and emotional triggers — helping you stay in control, reduce reactivity, and respond more deliberately instead of automatically.
