Adult ADHD

& ADD

Most adults I work with weren't diagnosed as children.

They grew up being told they were lazy, disorganised, too sensitive, or not trying hard enough — while constantly feeling that something wasn't quite working the way it should. By the time they understand it's ADHD, there's often a lot to untangle — not just practically, but emotionally.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult myself. I know what it feels like to finally have a name for something that shaped your life without you fully realising it — and I know what it actually takes to change the patterns, not just understand them.

How it often shows up

In adults, ADHD is less about hyperactivity and more about patterns like:

  • Starting tasks easily, but struggling to finish them
  • Losing time to distraction while important things are delayed
  • Emotional reactions that feel too intense or hard to control
  • Inconsistency that affects work, relationships, or daily life
  • A persistent gap between what you know you're capable of and what actually gets done
  • Feeling overwhelmed by ordinary tasks — a phone call, a message, something that should take ten minutes
  • Impulsive decisions, purchases, or words you regret almost immediately

Many high-functioning people compensate for years — until life becomes complex enough that those strategies stop working.

What we work on

We focus on building control and consistency in everyday life:

  • Understanding how your ADHD shows up and what triggers your most difficult moments
  • Managing impulsivity and emotional reactivity
  • Building systems that actually work for how your brain functions
  • Improving follow-through and decision-making
  • Addressing the impact on your relationships

The goal is not perfection — but more stability, control, and predictability in the areas that matter most to you.

ADHD, impulsivity, and addictive behaviour

There is a strong link between ADHD and impulsive or addictive patterns — including substance use, alcohol, spending, or risk-taking. If this is part of your situation, we work on both together. You don't need to treat them as separate problems or find two different therapists.
